I used to use a broker exclusively. Now, I use a broker and I have an online account. A good broker is an incredible resource, but they are expensive. If I see a stock that I like, I will buy it online myself. If my broker has a hot tip, I will go through him. It’s win win.

Nice post! Life certainly has gotten easier now that we have the internet for all our stock trades. It’s hard to imagine that one used to have to call a broker and pay a hefty % of the proceeds for each transaction.

I don’t know about negotiating lower fees for transactions. I believe I pay $8 for any size, so that’s not too expensive…
